Aten Construction Roof Replacement Process
1) Evaluation / Estimate
Aten Construction will evaluate the entire roof system and take measurements in order to estimate the cost of the roof replacement if it is necessary. We will also look at the ventilation system to see if any improvements might be needed. This information including the estimate will then be given to you for evaluation. Suggestions regarding materials and installation will be given and we will answer any questions. You can contact us after looking through everything.
2) Selection / Approval
Selecting a style and color of roofing material, the style of roof you install depends greatly on your budget. Aten Construction can help you find a quality product with your budget in mind. The color of your roof can change the look of your entire house so for some people it’s an opportunity to look at different painting / color schemes on the rest of their house. After the color and style is chosen Aten Construction will ask for a work order to be signed so we can move forward and order the materials.
3) Ordering Material
After the selection has been Aten Construction will handle ordering the all the materials required. Some special order products need to be given extra time to come in.
4) Delivery
Aten Construction will deliver the material on the ground prior to tear off of existing shingles. Many times it will have to be set close to the house on the driveway. Homeowners at this time should leave a space available for the roofing materials. Scaffold may also be setup at this time if necessary.
5) Tear Off
The existing shingles on the house will have to be torn off and usually wheeled to the edge of the roof were they are dumped in a trailer. Homeowners should pull all vehicles out of their driveway to make way for the trash trailer and to prevent damage to their vehicles.
6) Underlayment / Felt Install
Ice and water shield, felt and flashing will be installed after the roof is cleared. When this is done the house will be temporarily water tight.
7) Shingle Lift
Aten construction may mechanically lift the material or hand load the bundled shingle at this time and spread the bundles across the roof. The bundles are set securely on the roof but homeowners should be warned to stay away from the eaves of the home for their safety.
8) Shingle
A starter strip is laid around the eave of the roof. Then starting at the bottom of the roof shingles will be nailed down in a left to right or right to left motion. Proper flashing required will be installed as necessary including the reinstallation of vent and any other miscellaneous materials. Then the ridge will be caped off with a specially cut “Hip and Ridge” shingle.
9) Visual Inspection
Aten Construction will look over the entire roof for any questionable installation or defects and repair if necessary.
10) Clean Up
Any stray roofing debris will be picked up and disposed of at this time.
11) Payment / Warranty
Under the terms of the work order an invoice will be given to the customer for payment. When payment is received it will initiate the 2 year workmanship warranty of the roof (this start date is considered the clean up date). Then you can enjoy the beauty and efficiency of your new roof system.
